German Table Tennis Cup: Semifinal Preview - Butterfly Table Tennis - 2 minutes read
(by Steve Hopkins)
As the World awaits the ITTF to open again with the World Cup events in China next month, quality table tennis continues to be played at the regional level.
Many in the US have been following the German Bundesliga where our top player, Kanak Jha, joined 2019 Ochsenhausen earlier this year. Through this point, in a COVID-shortened season, teams Borussia Dusseldorf and Liebherr Ochsenhausen both remain undefeated thus far.
Of the four Quarterfinals, only one has been played thus far – With Schwalbe Bergneustadt’s team led by Benedikt Duda and Stefan Fergerl overcoming Saarbrucken’s team led by Darko Jorgic and Patrick Franziska.
On Friday, Ochsenhausen will play Fortuna Passau, and Bad Homburg will play Grunwettersbach. The fourth Quarterfinal will be played the following weekend between Borussia Dusseldorf and Ban Hamm.
The early favorite by ranking would be Borussia Dusseldorf (they have three players currently undefeated in match play: Anton Kallberg, Ricardo Walther, and Kristian Karlsson). Ochsenhausen players Tiago Apolonia and Hugo Calderano are both undefeated as well.
