Along with Mina is her twenty-something American friend Dakota Fanning, who moved to a small Irish village far from her twin sister and her extended family. In order to make ends meet, she works all day at a pet store. In her spare time, she paints. The majority of the time, Mina lives alone and makes an effort to ignore her painful history, which includes the death of her mother and the car accident that claimed her life when she and her sister were small. Fanning does a superb job portraying Mina's terrible sense of hopelessness, which she carries with her every day as she ignores her past.
