Lamar Odom ‘deactivated’ by Big3 league after making debut

Lamar Odom’s basketball comeback will have to wait.

On Wednesday, the Big3 basketball league announced in a statement that Odom, in addition to former NBA players Baron Davis, Bonzi Wells and Jermaine O’Neal, has been “deactivated” for the 2019 season.

“As the premier professional 3-on-3 league in the world, we are always striving to improve the quality of both the live and broadcast experience for our fans as well as the level of competition,” the statement read.

Though the reasoning behind Odom’s deactivation remains unclear, sources tell TMZ the former Lakers forward worried about his ability to play, with the gossip site noting he “was nervous about being embarrassed on the court.”

Odom made his Big3 debut last month as a member of the Enemies team within Ice Cube’s organization, which he co-founded with entertainment exec Jeff Kwatinetz. He scored two points in the game.

“I like the pace of the game,” Odom told sideline correspondent Michael Rapaport at the time. “Once I get my rhythm back it should be no problem.”

Odom’s return to the court comes nearly four years after his near-fatal overdose at a Nevada brothel. He was hospitalized in late 2015 and later checked into rehab. While recalling the ordeal, the 39-year-old revealed he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma.

“All my doctors that see me say I’m a walking miracle,” Odom told Kevin Hart in 2018, as part of the comedian’s “Cold as Balls” YouTube series.
