All the new movies and early theater releases you can watch at home right now - 63 minutes read
Movie theaters are slowly reopening, but most of the new releases are headed to streaming services rather than the big screen. Whether you're staying at home to limit potential risks, or just saving a few bucks by watching from the couch, we've organized a huge list with many of the newly added films and some upcoming titles.
New this week:
Remember how there were several big openings last week, and the week before was pretty good too? Sorry, that wasn't meant to last, this week left us with very little to watch.
While they would have flown under the radar most other weeks, there were still two titles standing out from the pack. Unpregnant, a teen road trip that has some good characters and a timely situation. It also happens to include Giancarlo Esposito (Gus, Breaking Bad), which is almost reason enough to give it a watch. The other with sleeper hit potential is I Am Woman, the story of Helen Reddy who wrote and performed the song by the same name and helped inspire the women's movement in the 70s.
Parents are probably looking for something new to play for their kids, and fortunately this week brings a pair of animal-themed titles that will fill the role: Pets United (Netflix) and Spy Cat. They don't look like particularly great movies, but how many times can you really re-play Frozen 2.
There's usually a flood of titles in the horror / thriller genre, but this week came surprisingly light on scares — not like the world needed more. For your traditional survival thriller, Range Runners looks like it might be fairly decent. And for some psychological strangeness with Will Wheaton, you can check out Rent-A-Pal for something that's uniquely... really strange.
There are a few others that may be worth peeking at, including some based in religion, and a couple documentaries.
