“Hate This Kind of Love,” with its soaring progressive melodies, is a gut-wrenching song about a moderately poisonous relationship from which you can’t seem to break away. Just because someone has harmed you doesn’t mean you’re ready to say goodbye to them; this appears to be the song’s overall meaning. The ache in the words may be felt when HOLT says “I hope you hate being lonely too.”
