Vinyl is a composite plastic that is durable and waterproof. A vinyl floor has a base layer of PVC (polyvinyl chloride ) sealed to a fibrous core, covered by a printed design layer and a transparent, strong wear layer on top. The quality of vinyl flooring depends on thickness as well as the quality of the wear layer. Some luxury options have more layers and rigid protective coatings that can withstand heavy foot traffic and feel softer on your feet.

Besides their outstanding properties: amazingly durable, dirt, stain resistant and easy to install, vinyl floors have many forms: tile, plank and sheet vinyl.

Simple Ways to Clean Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl has significantly improved its durability and scratch resistance over the years; besides wiping up all the spills as soon as possible, you don't need more than regular mopping to keep it in top shape. With sponge mops for Vinyl floors and a bucket of clean water, you're good to go. However, if you neglect your floor for too long and deep cleaning is the only option to restore its beautiful look, then read on; we have some tips for you:

-Start with sweeping first to collect surface dirt. Use a dry mop, soft brush or a vacuum. If you use a vacuum, choose mild settings and avoid the beater bar so as not to scratch the surface. Take special care of the corners, under furniture and along the baseboard. This way, when you mop the floor later, it won't be smeared with all the wet, dirty streaks, and you could save time cleaning it up again.

-Read the label if you use a commercial cleaner to ensure it's suitable for vinyl, avoid harsh and abrasive cleaners that can damage and dull the floor's look. Or you can make your own cleaning solution with apple cider vinegar. It's cheap, easy to find and fantastic for cutting through all the grime and oil spills. Mix a small cup of vinegar with a bucket of warm water, and you already have an effective DIY cleaning solution.

-If your floor is filthy, mop it first with a mixture of water and some drops of liquid soap, then use vinegar and water for the second time. Rinse again with water if necessary. Want to make your floor shiny? A little bit of baby oil in the cleaning solution will do the trick but don't overdo it if you don't want the floor to become slippery.

-For tough stains, use baking soda. Mix it with water, apply the paste directly onto the area, and wait a few minutes. Then use a soft brush to gently scrub the stains and clean them with a microfiber cloth. Repeat as much as you need until all the residue is gone.
