The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Is Unveiled By TAG Heuer - 3 minutes read
TAG Heuer and Porsche are synonymous with automotive and watchmaker collaborations, so these limited edition Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 chronographs will be highly appreciated. Both Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 chronographs pay homage to the Porsche RS 2.7, the first automobile to receive the Carrera brand. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Ducktail, and the Carrera Porsche Special Editions are appropriate celebration gifts. Before we get into the watches, we need take a step back since this is a tale about Carreras, and it happened fairly organically.
TAG Heuer and Porsche formally announced their alliance in 2021, marking the first time the two companies have collaborated. In 1963, Jack Heuer introduced the Carrera watch for Heuer (no TAG yet), nine years before Porsche unveiled its Carrera model. While both the car and the timepiece had distinct beginnings, the term Carrera began to take shape in the minds of aficionados. As a result, the links between TAG Heuer and Porsche grew naturally, putting a degree of pressure on special editions to produce. This leads us back to the two RS 2.7 chronographs, which are extremely appealing as you can see.
Notably, the Heuer 02 automatic calibre powers both Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 chronographs, indicating that they are tri-compax chronographs with dates. The design team has disguised the date and running seconds display at 6 o’clock, transforming the RS 2.7 into a fake bi-compax product. This will be contentious, but the form factor clearly favors the dual-registers design, and the alternative would have been to not display the running seconds at all. That would have been the more contentious decision. The use of text within the splash of color that crosses with the hour marks is also fascinating, though not contentious. This is likewise hidden and has a connection to the prototype Carrera automobiles.
“The Carrera’s name and attitude are extremely significant and symbolic for both TAG Heuer and Porsche,” stated TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault. “For the 50th anniversary of the classic RS 2.7 Porsche 911 Carrera, we wanted to develop a tribute watch that would convey the character and power of this ground-breaking sports automobile inside our own characteristic TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph.” The two clocks we imagined together are sleek, aggressive, and unforgettable; they represent their historic history while also projecting something even more intriguing — what Porsche and TAG Heuer may now do together.”
“The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911 to be dubbed ‘Carrera,’ and it was the crowning beauty of the Porsche line at the time,” Detlev von Platen, Member of Porsche AG’s Executive Board for Sales and Marketing, remarked. “The 50th anniversary of this sports car legend is the ideal occasion for us to unveil a collaborative watch with our close partner TAG Heuer, with whom we share the same philosophy and a passion for rare products that mix innovation and legacy.”
The Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 chronographs are available in two finishes: stainless steel and 18k rose gold. The steel model has two strap options: fabric and bracelet, while the rose gold model has a red alligator strap. The steel chronograph has a run of 500 pieces, while the rose gold chronograph has a run of 250. Both are boutique exclusives and are currently available. The blue accent on the fabric strap is fantastic in our opinion, but the rose gold version may be just suitable for individuals wishing to celebrate with the proper watch while driving the Porsche Carrera.
