Hi There….. Did you realize it was black cat awareness month? Are you superstitious? Are you scared of crossing the path of a black cat? ???? Not me, I even had several black cats living in my home. Safe to say that I am not afraid of them and I am not superstitious either, or am I? ???? Me and my sisters used to defy each other when there was a ladder on the pavement across our path. The one that didn’t dare to go underneath would be a chicken, so there literally was no alternative. ???? We did however keep searching for that one four-leaf-clover that would bring us luck. Ok, maybe it is best that I also confess that we made a wish when an eyelash fell out because we didn’t want to pass up the chance to make a wish come true. ???? Although you can never be too sure, something weird happened to me a while ago that made me question if I was seeing ghosts. Some 5 years ago our black cat Zara died of old age. A few months afterward, when it was getting late, I went up to the bedroom to go to bed. I went into the room and saw a black cat just like our Zara. Completely in shock, I ran down the stairs to my spouse to tell him what happened. Impossible, he said, you must have been dreaming. Come on, we’ll go upstairs together to have a look. ???? Believe me, it also shocked him to see that it wasn’t a dream. There was a black cat sitting on our bed looking back at us. After closer inspection, I noticed that she looked different from our Zara. That’s when I realized she must be the neighbor’s cat, but how did she end up in our bedroom. She must have come through the hole in the ceiling we had made a while ago because of a leakage. Later, we found out that our neighbor had made a hole in the attic and hadn’t had time to close it up yet. That’s quite a story, isn’t it? And every word is true, cross my fingers hope to die. ???? I read on animalrescueprofessionals that superstitions surrounding black cats have gotten so out of control that shelters won’t even adopt them during October. People take in black cats to celebrate Halloween to abandon them, or worse after the holiday passes. That’s why they brought this black cat awareness month into life.
