When the term “Professional” is applied to a watch, not just a dive watch, but any type of watch in general, the words unreasonable integrity and the image of a practical, tough-as-nails watch come to mind. Such a watch is jam-packed with ingenious features that ensure peak performance no matter what new hell breaks loose throughout it. Tissot‘s most recent rendition of the Seastar 2000 Professional fits that description to a tee, but with a dash of fun thrown in for good measure.

The Tissot Seastar 1000 is a series of dive watches designed for watersports and expeditions by the Swiss company Tissot. They will perform adequately in most situations, with a water-resistance rating of up to 1000 feet (300m). If more assurance is required, the Seastar 2000 Specialist appears to be well-equipped to provide it.

Tissot ensures the “Professional” label is not used casually, with ISO 6425 accreditation establishing the stage for the Seastar 2000 Professional’s aspirations. To be accredited, the watch must meet the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for water resistance (minimum 100 meters), resistance to outside forces, resistance to thermal shock and magnetic fields, a dive timing device such as a unidirectional turning bezel, hands that can be read easily at night and are clearly distinguishable one from the other, and a method of seeing that the watch is running also at night.

A quick glance at the Seastar 2000 Professional’s specifications suggests that it is overkill. Tissot took the liberty of including a helium valve, which, when combined with a higher depth rating, allows for technical saturation dives. Tissot addresses any issues concerning a lack of toughness with dimensions of 46mm (size) by 16.25 mm (thickness) as well as a substantial, domed sapphire glass. Superluminova is used in the extra-large hands and ceramic bezel inlay to ensure legibility. The hulking stainless-steel unit is powered by the Powermatic 80 quality, which is outfitted with the Nivachron balance-spring rather than the silicon variation. Nivachron is an anti-magnetic titanium alloy that is also resistant to shock and thermal deformation.

The Seastar 2000 Professional is a youthful take on an otherwise serious watch, despite its supercharged specs. The three lighthearted dial colors packed with wave-patterns are aimed squarely at lovers of extreme maritime design.
