A 10,180-square-foot megamansion perched above an extremely picturesque spot on California‘s coast was listed for US$56 million last week. According to the listing with The Agency, the gated property is located on more than an acre of land directly above the Pacific Ocean at Point Dume and overlooks Westward Beach. The main house and the guest house together have seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

According to one of the listing agents, Sandro Dazzan, the contemporary megamansion was designed by architect Doug Burdge and is one of his first contemporary-style builds.

“We were there today, and it was a beautiful day to see it,” Mr Dazzan said of the mansion. “It was a crisp morning, right after the rain, and it was as clear as could be.” The waves crashing below you can be heard, and there are cypress trees to the left that are part of the Point Dume Natural Preserve, giving it a Big Sur feel. It’s a timeless home with a lot of volume…and great indoor-outdoor flow.”

The home has many features that contribute to its indoor-outdoor feel, such as “vanishing” walls that allow easy access to the patios and covered terraces with stunning views of the ocean. Wood flooring and cabinetry, as well as stone details, help to bring the outdoors in and enhance the visual continuity of the home.

Three of the property’s bedrooms have ocean views, with the master bedroom having its own separate sitting area that can be converted to an office or gym depending on your needs. It also has a dressing room and an en-suite bathroom with a soaking tub overlooking the pool and the ocean. According to the listing, other amenities include a game room, a full bar, a wine cellar, and a gym.

If that doesn’t pique your interest, there’s a “floating” Miami mansion for sale for $15 million. In an effort to combat rising sea levels and flooded homes, Rene Gonzalez’s residence could provide a respite from the effects of global warming. To prevent water damage, the house is perched on a set of columns. Its eccentricity is immediately apparent as you enter through a retractable automated staircase that ascends from the gardens to the actual home.

Despite the fact that it is surrounded by massive concrete walls, the interior of the house feels light and airy. The floor plan is divided into four sections: a living room and kitchen, a master bedroom suite, and two separate guest rooms. It’s a total of 3,312 square feet, with floor-to-ceiling retractable panes and the same indoor-outdoor flow as the previous property.

The property also has a lap pool and a waterfall surrounded by plants, so stepping outside feels like you’re entering a private jungle. There’s also an outdoor shower, which is handy for rinsing off after a swim. If you enjoy entertaining, there is an alfresco area for lounging by the pool, as well as additional entertaining space on the rooftop. The skylights and windows add a sense of lightness to the space, which complements the home’s perch on stilts.
