Leiden had a slowdown in its economy following the demise of the textile industry in the 18th century. This was followed by industrialization during the latter half of the 19th century. Today, the city's main economic activities include graphic arts, food processing, and the production of construction materials. The Leiden cheese and cattle markets are among the biggest in the country and there are even bulbs-growing farms in the west. Nearby are the resorts for sea lovers of Noordwijk and Katwijk.
