Negeri prince Tunku Imran made WOU chancellor
GEORGE TOWN: Businessman and leading sports personality Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar will be installed as the fourth Chancellor of Wawasan Open University at a special ceremony on the main campus on August 1.
Tunku Imran will take over from former Chief Justice Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah whose tenure ended in December 2018.
At the ceremony, Lim Thuang Seng will be proclaimed as the second Pro-Chancellor, taking over from former Penang chief minister Koh Tsu Koon.
Tunku Imran, 73, is the third child of Tuanku Ja’afar, the tenth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and the tenth Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. Malaysia’s first king, Tuanku Abdul Rahman was his grandfather.
He is noted for his leadership of sporting bodies such as Olympic Council of Malaysia, the Malaysian Cricket Association and the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia for many years, the Commonwealth Games Federation, SEA Games Federation and World Squash Federation, and also served on the International Olympic Committee.
He also founded and led the Antah Group of Companies, and currently heads Syarikat Pesaka Antah Sdn Bhd and is chairman of Yayasan Sime Darby.
