Sally Moyland Wins in Hungary - 2 minutes read
(by Steve Hopkins)
We don’t often follow WTT Youth Contender Series events abroad – but a few Americans traveled to Szombathely Hungary to play in this tournament and Sally Moyland has already logged an event win.
Moyland, a 15 year old up and coming American, entered in the U17 and U19 events. In the U19, she was 1-1, winning her opening match against Dora Cosic of Croatia, and then fell to Wong Hoi Tung of Singapore (3-2). Moyland had her impact in the U17 event, where Moyland pulled off a series of upsets to maneuver through the draw.
Moyland topped Saanvi Roy of India 3-0, then defeated Sachi Aoki of Japan 3-1. In her next match, the defeated event top seed India’s Suhana Saini 3-2 in the Round of 16. In the Quarterfinals, Moyland defeated Phatsaraphon Wonglak of Thailand 3-1, and in the Semifinals she scored a 3-1 win over Anna Brzyska of Poland. In the final, it was Moyland again – a 3-1 win over Rin Mende of Japan. A great series of matches, and solid results for one of America’s promising juniors.
Nishant Lebaka, Nandan Naresh, Sid Naresh, Darryl Tsao, and Aryan Jha are awaiting the boys events to begin. We’ll have their results in a couple of days.
