Nigo, Kenzo’s artistic director, has released a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by the Japanese boke flower just in time for the arrival of spring. This lovely flowering quince is said to bloom every February, signaling the beginning of the new season. The red floral motif can be found on oversized hoodies, sweatshirts, long-sleeve T-shirts, jersey cardigans, and nylon coach jackets, among other items.

The designer created two five-piece wardrobes for men and women for this capsule collection. Despite the gender distinction, the drop was described as “genderless in spirit” by the brand.

White is the colour du jour for this limited-edition collection and the brand said in a statement that: “The drop is largely retained in white as a nod to the image of a blank page: new beginnings.” Nigo was named artistic director of Kenzo in September 2021, and is best known for founding the streetwear brands Bape and Human Made. The designer’s signature styles, such as the Gurkha-inspired cargo pants and cargo skirts, can be found throughout. Aside from the predominantly white color scheme, there are also navy and camel accents.

All three upcoming spring drops will feature other Japanese flora and fauna as signifiers of symbols and feelings, as a nod to the late founder of the fashion house, Kenzo Takada. Nigo intends to continue the eponymous founder’s tradition of incorporating natural elements into his designs. Recently, the DJ-turned-designer collaborated on the LV2 collection with the late Virgil Abloh.

Nigo’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection for Kenzo was just unveiled last month, and many celebrities and musicians, including Ye (formerly Kanye West), Julia Fox, Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator, and others, were in attendance.
