Southwest Just Gave A Free Nintendo Switch To Every Passenger On This Flight
Nintendo is scheduled to set up a huge booth at the San Diego Comic-Con, the grandaddy of all Comic Cons, held at the San Diego Convention Center on July 18-21. Their focus will be on its new game, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. However it will also have a Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, which is right next door to the convention center. The lounge will be open to the public and will offer playable games such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
Southwest Airlines will be at the lounge with a Super Mario Maker 2 contest that attendees can enter. Winners can potentially win a Nintendo Switch + Super Mario Maker 2 bundle.
However, not everyone who attends Comic-Con lives in San Diego – they have to travel to get there. And apparently not everyone has to “win” in order to get that Nintendo Switch + Super Mario Maker 2 bundle. And that’s where things got interesting for some airline passengers…
Southwest surprised the passengers of a flight headed from Dallas Love Field to San Diego, and it became Christmas In July. Take a look:
Once they were on the plane, there was the big reveal… Nintendo representatives handed out bright red bags that contained Switch systems to all the passengers, along with a free copy of Super Mario Maker 2 that included a special level specially designed for the Southwest experience.
This wasn’t the first time Nintendo and Southwest have collaborated on a Nintendo giveaway. In 2013, the two companies gave passengers flying from New Orleans to Dallas free Wii U consoles and a copy of Super Mario Bros. U.
In 2016, the they again surprised passengers on a flight from Dallas to Los Angeles with free Nintendo 3DS XL systems and copies of Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo and Southwest began working together in 2013 when Nintendo became the “official video game partner” of the airline.
Here’s to crossed fingers for whoever is on Southwest flight in the future – you never know what you might get!
