Liverpool fans demand club sign a forward after Jurgen Klopp confirms Xherdan Shaqiri is out injured
Liverpool fans have implored the club to sign a forward following news of Xherdan Shaqiri's injury.
The Switzerland star is likely to miss the start of the new season with a calf problem picked up during Switzerland's Nations League defeat by England last month.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed the news on Tuesday via the club's website.
'Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again.
'He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.'
Liverpool open the Premier League campaign on August 9 when they travel to Norwich at Carrow Road.
As things stand they will only have Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster as their fully-fit attacking options.
This is because Sadio Mane is currently away on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, while Roberto Firmino has just won the Copa America with Brazil. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah will also need a break after Egypt's last-16 exit at the African Cup of Nations on Saturday.
And Liverpool fans took to social media to vent their concerns about their lack of options in attack.
'[Xherdan] Shaqiri out for a while then. [Sadio] Mane potentially missing the majority of pre-season if Senegal go deep in the AFCON. [Daniel] Sturridge off the wage bill. [Danny] Ings now gone on a permanent deal. Five competitions + Community Shield & Super Cup this season. A forward signing is surely required,' wrote .
tweeted: 'Shaqiri with a calf tear apparently. Even less depth in our attack then. Our only attackers at the start of the season will be Origi and Brewster.... European Champions you know, poor.'
put: 'If this doesn't highlight the need for an extra attacker (before the season has even started), I don't know what does...'
'Sign. Pepe. From. Lille,' demanded , while put 'It doesn't sound good, and we're short in attack this pre-season...'
