Como 1907, an Italian football club, has launched an innovative charity auction to raise funds for EMERGENCY, a humanitarian organization. The fundraiser will run on OpenSea until April 30th, and donors will be able to bid on a non-fungible token (NFT). The NFT has a starting bid of 2 Ethereum (approximately $5,000), with prizes totaling more than $100,000.

The NFT was “inspired by the Como football club and the city it calls home” and was titled “tribuna d’onore a vita” (or “VIP tickets for life”). “A golden ticket emerges from the depths of the deep blue lake as a nod to the league championship-ascent of the club in 2021 and the promise of a bright future,” says the press release, “in recognition of Como’s rich history of success as both a city and a football club.”

“Sports franchises have a significant influence on our society and a tremendous responsibility,” Dennis Wise, chief executive officer of Como 1907, said. While many in the sports industry have jumped on NFTs as the newest way to make money, Wise continued, “we hope to use this blockchain technology to make a difference for those who need it most.” “Over the years, our Como NFT may change hands, but EMERGENCY will benefit from each transaction.”
