Yankees OF Maybin goes on IL, could miss six weeks

As expected, the New York Yankees placed outfielder Cameron Maybin on the 10-day injured list on Sunday.

Maybin exited the Yankees’ 4-1 win Friday against the Houston Astros due to a strained left calf. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Saturday that Maybin was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain and could be out six weeks.

The Yankees traded for Maybin on April 25, five days after losing Aaron Judge to a strained left oblique, and he played a valuable role while Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks were on the injured list.

Maybin is hitting .314 (37-for-118) with five homers, 14 RBIs and 27 runs in 42 games with the Yankees.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cortes has split time between the Yankees and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the season.

With the Yankees, he’s appeared in seven games, posting a 2-0 record and a 4.09 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 22 innings. In Triple-A, he’s 2-2 in seven games (six starts) with a 3.86 ERA.
