Busy Philipps reveals she is excited to throw a 'period party' for her daughters
And Busy Philipps, 40, kept her crown on Friday as she revealed that she's particularly looking forward to a big milestone in her daughter's lives.
The mother-of-two, whose chat show was cancelled in May, disclosed on Twitter that she will be throwing both her daughters a party when they have their first period.
The White Chicks actress, who is mom to six-year-old Cricket and 10-year-old Birdie, commented with enthusiasm on an article about hosting the parties to help break the stigma of menstruation.
'I don’t even need to read this, I am already so excited to throw a first period party for my girls!' Busy commented on the Hello Giggles feature.
According to the HelloGiggles article, the idea of the soiree is to help girls celebrate their changing bodies and embrace their first periods.
Busy's Twitter followers had a mixed reaction to her comment.
One wrote: 'Yes, the first period should be acknowledged. But please don’t make it a “you’re a woman now” party because: 1) children who have their period are still children and should be viewed as children and 2) not all women have periods and it denies their womanhood.'
Another commented: 'Seriously. I know for a fact my kid would have HATED it, especially as they started early (pre-teen.)'
The parties are becoming more common after a Florida mom’s 'period party' for her daughter went viral on Twitter in 2017.
Twelve-year-old Brooke Lee’s mother Shelly had organized the event to ease the preteen’s anxiety around starting her period and invited close family and friends.
They celebrated with pizza, a cake with red and white icing and menstrual product gifts.
Busy shares her girls with screenwriter husband Marc Silverstein; the couple married in 2007.
The Dawson's Creek alum - revealed recently that she's teaching her tots that fame can be a 'positive thing.'
She explained that it can be 'weirdly overwhelming' for them when she is stopped in the street but has reassured them not to be scared.
'I was like, "I know it’s tough for you to have to share your mom with everybody, and that people think they know you and your sister and your dad - but at some point I think you’ll understand better that it’s a positive thing that people feel towards me. It’s not negative and it shouldn’t be scary,"' she said.
The star's E! show was cancelled in May, which she divulged to disappointed fans on Instagram.
'My show, Busy Tonight is not going to continue on E! after May 16th. They decided not to pick it up.
'Look, we're you know, meeting with people and seeing if there's another place that makes sense for it to go. Because I would like to continue doing it. We would all like to figure out a way to continue to make [it]
'It's kinda wild because you know we've only been doing the show for like a relatively short period of time, you know. Like five months, six months now.
'And in that time I feel like we've been able to accomplish so much, creatively, and you know, I guess culturally. I think we've had a real point of view and a real [inaudible]
'And I'm so proud of all of the things that we've done, like that we've been able to do and I feel like the show is really successful in that way. You know.
' You know. [Shakes head]. I don't know what to say. We're definitely...we've talked to some people and we are trying to figure out if there's a place that makes sense for our hows to go to, and hopefully we will be able to figure that out, you know I think we will. I have faith in.....me.
'I hope that you know we can continue to do the show somewhere else. I hope...that that's...that we figure that out. Cos it does seem lame that there would be just like just be one woman in late night at a time.
'I don't know. I love our show, I really do. And I love what we've done in a relatively short period of time. It's crazy. It's crazy. I truly like the most amazing people that work with me. Our staff is... Our creative staff, is like 89% female. We are just....It's just an office full of dope women who f***ing get it done.
'So yeah we've got four shows this week on E! And four shows next week on E! And then May 16th is my last show on E! so I guess you can tune in.
'And then OBVS I'll let you know what's happening,' she concluded.
