The “Time for Speed” Clock By Tiffany & Co. Is For Fans Of Cars And Jewelry - 2 minutes read
Following its partnership with streetwear retailer Supreme from the previous year, premium jewelry brand Tiffany & Co. has once more stretched the limits of its trade. The American jeweler chose to combine the worlds of timekeeping and automobiles for this year’s holiday gift-giving season. Here comes the “Time for Speed,” a timepiece inspired by 1950s race vehicles. This race car clock, an artistic memento that displays the jeweler’s expertise, pays homage to Tiffany’s long history of producing vehicle prizes, the first of which was the Vanderbilt Cup in 1904. In 2022, after more than a century, Tiffany displayed their third racing trophy, the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
The car-shaped clock has a body made of aluminum that is painted Tiffany Blue throughout and has tough rubber tires with polished stainless steel spokes and rims. The watch has 19.53 carats of round brilliant diamonds that are painstakingly set by hand, showcasing Tiffany’s watchmaking and gem-setting skills. These brilliant diamonds are placed in pavé to adorn the engraving plate and bezel of the clock. The race car clock has a brushed stainless steel aperture opening on its left side so that the eventual owner may see the time. The number five is painted on top of the vehicle in reference to the jeweler’s renowned Fifth Avenue flagship store, and Tiffany’s traditional monogram can be seen on the grille at the front of the vehicle.
The three-spoke steering wheel may be turned counterclockwise to set the time, and the movement is wound by pushing the automobile rearward on a level surface. In the driver’s seat, one can see the balancing wheel and escape mechanism. The Time for Speed is available in two variations: one with diamonds and one without. The former will cost US$215,000 and be available in a few number, whilst the latter will cost US$40,000. One of these limited edition versions will only be made available in Japan.
