MAC Encrypted Kryptonite Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches - 2 minutes read

Encrypted Kryptonite

The MAC Encrypted Kryptonite Connect in Color 6-Pan Eyeshadow Palette is a new permanent six-pan palette with three matte hues and three (kind of) shimmers. The formula employed for the new Connect in Colour palettes did not impress me since the shimmers were dry, thin, dusty, and/or powdery with sheer coverage and poor durability, and the mattes were not as blendable as they could (or should!) have been. The new formula is intended to have “one-swipe” pigmentation and is being marketed as VERY pigmented eyeshadows, however the three shimmers were really weak eyeshadows… period.

Ingredients

Clear History

Clear History is a soft beige with warm undertones and a satin sheen.

Semi-opaque, buildable coverage
Moderately powdery, slightly dry with light fallout
Applied fairly evenly but could have been more blendable
Average longevity (6 hours before fading visibly; brand only claimed 8-hour wear)

Satin Taupe

Satin Taupe is a rosy brown with light-medium undertones and a glossy shine.

Mostly opaque pigmentation
Thin, somewhat dry, harder to pick up evenly
Applied somewhat evenly, light fallout, prone to sheering out
Poor longevity (6 hours before fading noticeably)

Power Mode

Power Mode has a faint brown undertone and a matte finish. It applied lighter, but it also darkened strangely on my skin, even after I used primer.

Semi-opaque, buildable coverage
Moderately powdery, slightly dry with light fallout
Applied fairly evenly but could have been more blendable
Average longevity (7 hours before fading visibly; brand only claimed 8-hour wear)

Showstopper

Showstopper is a deep gray-taupe with warm undertones and a matte texture.

Semi-opaque, buildable coverage
Moderately powdery, slightly dry with light fallout
Applied fairly evenly but could have been more blendable
Average longevity (7 hours before fading visibly; brand only claimed 8-hour wear)

On the Cloud

On the Cloud is a silky black with gray shimmer throughout. It had a fairly matte surface.

Medium pigmentation, not buildable
Thin, somewhat dry, harder to pick up evenly
Hard to blend out, prone to fallout
Poor longevity (6 hours before fading noticeably)

Hi-Tea

Hi-Tea has a matte sheen and is a very light, milky pink. It seemed darker in the pan than it did when applied.

Semi-sheer, somewhat coverage
Moderately powdery, slightly dry with light fallout
Applied fairly evenly but could have been more blendable
Average longevity (6 hours before fading visibly; brand only claimed 8-hour wear)
