Back in 1996, Owen, a seventh-grader, crosses paths with Maddy, a ninth-grader who loves The Pink Opaque, a show about girls fighting monsters. Owen becomes a fan after watching an episode at Maddy's house. Maddy gives him tapes to keep up with the show, but they don't spend much time together.
