It is a thriving music center, London's theaters and music venues feature such artists as Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Coldplay. London has over 800 bookshops and over 300 public libraries. It is also home to the British Library holds the Magna Carta.


London's past is full of events that shaped the city. The Great Plague, which struck in 1665, killed more than sixty thousand people, or nearly one-fifth of the city's population. Later in 1665, the Great Fire of London destroyed many buildings that were made from wood. The blaze swept through many wooden buildings and ruined the Old St Paul's Cathedral, along with the 87 parish churches as well as 44 livery company halls. In the late 19th century London had grown to more than two million. The result was that London became an important hub for international trade and finance.


The diverse culture of London shows in its food, art, music, and entertainment. In fact, the city is home to three of the top ten museums in the world, as well as four UNESCO world heritage places. Visitors will be able to discover a range of different religions and cultures in London. Additionally, more than 250 international music events take place in London every year, and London is the home of more than 300 live entertainment locations. The world's largest music venue in the world, the O2 is among London's most sought-after concert venues.
