How To Draw Winged Eyeliner Perfectly - 4 minutes read

Most women can’t live without eyeliner because it transforms everything and covers up all stress-related sins. The cat-eye look (also known as winged eyeliner) is one of the oldest and most iconic eyeliner styles and isn’t going away anytime soon. So, if you’re looking for a little extra pop with your makeup this holiday season, this is definitely one to look into. We all stare wide-eyed at the enthralling Egyptian women, and some of us watch Bollywood films just to see those beautiful Indian women flaunting their well-executed cat eyes.

Your eye makeup says a lot about your style and how people perceive you. With just one more tweak to your eyes, you can go from geek to glam, and the winged eyeliner look never fails to deliver. While you’re out having fun this holiday season, this is one look you shouldn’t skimp on. Why? Because a well-executed wing liner will not only keep you in the spotlight, but will also have others asking you how to create their own.

Cat-eyes can range from subtle flicks to dramatic wings, depending on the look you want to achieve, and the good news is that you don’t have to be a professional makeup artist to master the technique. It’s nearly impossible as a beginner not to smear your winged eyeliner and/or make uneven lines, but practice makes perfect. You no longer need to be concerned about how to achieve the perfect cat-eye look for your next glam event. We’ve got you covered with these simple steps for drawing wing eyeliner that will leave you wondering what took you so long.

What Are the Requirements for Drawing Winged Eyeliner?

A makeup brush
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Mascara
False lashes (optional)
A mirror
Proper lighting

Prime With Shadow

From your lash line to your crease, apply a neutral or light eyeshadow. To keep the cat-eye from looking overdone, use a neutral or nude eyeshadow that matches your skin tone. It also acts as a primer, preventing smudging of the eyeliner.

Get The Wing

Hold a slim brush with the bottom facing upwards towards the eyes and the brush area on your nose for this step to help with eye uniformity. Position the brush from your nose to the outer edge of your brow, pointing to the tip of your brow. Make a short line or dot from the corner of your eye up to your brow. Make any necessary corrections before the eyeliner dries and sets.

Connect The Dot

Connect the dot to the middle of your upper lash line with another line. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the thickness of the line; it all depends on the look you want to achieve. Pull your eyeliner from the outer corner of your eye to the center of your lid.

Fill In

Grab your eyeliner and fill in any areas underneath the line where the eyeshadow is still visible. If you didn’t make it too thick, you might not need to fill in anything.

Draw Out The Wing

To make a connecting line, slowly pull the eyeliner from the inner corner of your eyes to merge with the ready cat-eye, then continue across your eye until you reach the outer corner of your eyelid. Thicken the line as you get closer to the outer corner of your eyelid. It’s more pleasing to look at when it’s done in a single, smooth line rather than a series of shaky lines.

Lash Up

Apply a couple of coats of mascara or false lashes to complete the edgy look, and you’re ready to go.

Bonus Tips

Instead of a pencil liner, try a liquid eyeliner. Using a pencil would necessitate more layering to achieve that dark look, and the extra lines might appear wiggly.
If you’re a beginner and liquid eyeliners are too much for you, felt-tip eyeliners will suffice.
Don’t use cream or liquid eyeshadows to prime your eyes.
To achieve this look without stumbling, clip your hair backwards to prevent stray hairs from ruining your hard work.
Purchase a good makeup mirror.
