Formula One announced on March 31, 2022, that Las Vegas would host its night race beginning in 2023. The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday in November of next year, and it will be one of three events held in the United States, along with Austin and Miami. Vegas, famous for its casinos and world-class entertainment, hosted races in 1981 and 1982. F1 vehicles will compete for the first time on the renowned Las Vegas Strip next year, weaving through monuments such as Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, and the Venetian.

The 6.12km circuit is the second longest on the F1 calendar after the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and the third longest overall after Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps. The architectural layout exposes fourteen curves and three main straights over a two-kilometer section of the central Vegas Strip. The design of the Grand Prix, which lasts 50 laps, includes a high-speed curving sequence and a single chicane segment. According to F1 statistics, top speeds of about 342 km/h are projected, close to those observed at the Temple of Speed Monza.

As vehicles jockey for position on the 12-15m-wide roadways, the conclusion of the main stretch may offer the best opportunities for overtaking. Meanwhile, the most difficult obstacle may be a 180-degree turn at turn one. When the world’s best drivers learned about the much-anticipated Vegas circuit, seven-time winner Lewis Hamilton predicted “a fairly intense event”. “That’s going to be ridiculous”, said AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, summarizing some of the drivers’ reactions.

In collaboration with Live Nation Entertainment, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Founding Partners Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, Wynn Las Vegas, Presenting Partners MSG Sphere, Resorts World Las Vegas, and The Venetian Resort, F1 and Liberty Media promote the race.

The announcement was made during a spectacular occasion, when the union of legendary Las Vegas with the pinnacle of motorsport was dubbed “the ultimate combination of speed and luxury”.

“Our belief in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is reflected in our decision to take on the promoter role for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in collaboration with Live Nation”. We couldn’t be more delighted to collaborate with our local partners to produce a major event. The potential of Formula One has been amply established over the previous several seasons, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix will only elevate it to the next level”, stated Greg Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media.

Spectators and fans all across the world would undoubtedly agree with LVCVA CEO Steve Hill that Las Vegas will be “The Greatest Arena on Earth” by November 2023.
