Natural Ways You Can Relieve The Flu - 4 minutes read

In this season where the world still feels the impact of the coronavirus, it’s only smart to take extra precautions with your health. Think about about it, with different viruses flying all over the place–and most of them sharing the same symptoms with Covid–this is not the time to be caught up in an infection web. The flu, which is also known as Influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. As at this writing, there is no known cure for this infection, however, it can be avoided and managed.

Symptoms Of The Flu

Influenza (flu) is different from a cold. Flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

fever* or feeling feverish/chills
cough
sore throat
runny or stuffy nose
muscle or body aches
headaches
fatigue (tiredness)
some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.

On the other hand, if you’re already down with the flu, there are remedies that can fight the viral infection. Most times an over-the-counter medication is not required. Rather, try to stay home, rest, and ingest things that would enable the body to fight the viral intruders.

Here Are Some Natural Ways You Can Relieve The Flu

Stay Hydrated

When it comes to reliving the flu naturally, drinking water tops the list. This is expedient because it keeps the nose and throat moist. Accumulated mucus also contributes to being down with the flu, so when you drink lots of water, it helps expel phlegm from the body. Also, consuming fruits, vegetables, and fresh juice play a vital role in staying hydrated. If urine is deep yellow, it’s a sign of inadequate water intake.

Gargle With Salt Water

The viruses that case the flu can’t stand a salt water gargle. What’s a salt water gargle? Simply put, it’s a combination of warm water and salt that can get rid of mucus and prevent sore throat. It’s advised to do this once symptoms begin to surface. This water isn’t for consumption, so do not swallow.

Inhale Steam

Steam therapy is the process of inhaling the water vapor (steam) that comes from steaming hot water mixed with an essential oil or methylated rub. It decongests the nasal cavity, loosens phlegm, and soothes the throat and lungs. It could also relieve the chest.

Drink A Hot Cup Of Ginger Tea

Ginger possesses antimicrobial properties which help to fight infections. When you’re down with the flu, it shows that your immune system is responding to an infection in the body and ginger is great for speeding up recovery. Mix the ginger juice with honey or lemon and hot water for a more effective kick. This natural remedy still remains ever effective.

Take note that the flu could be a symptom of a more serious sickness like Asthma, Bronchitis, and even the Corona virus. If symptoms persists or gets worse after 8 days, consult your doctor immediately. Stay safe!
