Trump blasts Megan Rapinoe for saying she won't visit White House
President Trump lashed out at Megan Rapinoe, the co-captain of the USA women’s soccer team, after she said there’s no “f—ing” way she’d go to the White House if they win the Women’s World Cup.
”Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!,” he said in a series of tweets about the soccer star on Wednesday.
The president said he hasn’t yet invited Megan or the team “but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose.”
He also said he’s a “big fan” of the team and women’s soccer, but “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!”
Trump then went on to cite accomplishments like criminal justice reform and an economy with the lowest black unemployment rate in history, while saying “leagues and teams love coming to the White House.”
Rapino in an interview with EightbyEight magazine was asked if she’s attend a ceremony at the White House if the team wins the World Cup.
“I’m not going to the f—ing White House,” she said in the interview published earlier this month. “We’re not gonna be invited. I doubt it.”
The 33-year-old midfielder came out as gay in 2012 and has referred to herself as a “walking protest” to the Trump administration.
She has also been standing in silence as the “Star-Spangled Banner” plays before their World Cup games.
The team plays France in the quarterfinals on Friday.
