Naomi Osaka Limited Edition TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 is a watershed moment for dive watches because it pushes the boundaries of what they can do. Naomi Osaka is a name that needs no introduction. This year, she gets a watch that is worthy of her name and will undoubtedly catch the attention of watch collectors. Yes, it has a de rigueur green dial, and it has diamond-set hour markers, but it is her creative input into the watch’s development that is significant. In the same way that Steve McQueen chose the Monaco to represent the character of a racing driver, Osaka has chosen the Aquaracer as the first watch to bear her name.

The green dial — and a brighter shade of the same on the minute track — and the green rubber strap, of course, are intended to reflect Osaka’s love of tennis. It also happens to be her favorite color. This makes green a great choice for this space, and it goes beyond the current craze for the color. A second strap is included with the watch, this one made of 100% recycled fishing nets. The strap is also recyclable, according to the brand, but we can’t imagine why anyone would want to do away with this iconic feature! It’s worth noting that the watch doesn’t have interchangeable straps because TAG Heuer claims that a special tool is included with the limited edition watch to allow strap swapping.

The caseback features an engraving unique to Osaka, as one might expect from a limited-edition series with such a specific name. The champion’s personal logo is a teddy bear holding a flower. The presentation box features the same logo, which is mostly green with highlights in that signature tennis ball green. Some may find the diamonds incongruous in a professional model, but dive watches are known for their legibility, and the eight VS-grade diamonds help to enhance that. At least in the press images, the Aquaracer Professional 300 Naomi Osaka Limited Edition has a surprisingly subdued appearance.
