CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and percentage marks are two different systems of grading that are used in academic institutions. CGPA on the other hand is in common use in many education institutions in order to give the standardized measure of a student’s performance on a scale across all courses offered. It focuses on the quality of the student’s performance and his Grade Point Average score. While the percentage system involves working out the total number of marks attained by a candidate in the entire course of study then dividing with the total number of marks and multiplying by one hundred. Generally the conversion from CGPA to percentage, institutions apply a standard formula whereby the CGPA is multiplied by a fixed factor and a constant is added to approximate the score on the percentage scale. This conversion is helpful in the ranking of scores and comparing different systems of evaluation.
