Because this year’s Met Gala is going to take place on Monday, we can’t help but think back on the past and all of the delectable looks that the gala has generated throughout the years. Fashion’s version of the Oscars never disappoints, from high-wattage couture designs to out-of-the-box risqué ensembles that may have taken some time to properly appreciate.

Consider colorful feathers, metallics that seem like body armor, almost obsessive sheer accents, and enough decorations to shake a very fashionable stick at. For obvious reasons, a few well-known fashion mavens earned numerous slots on our list.
