Gucci Will Present Its “Gucci Cosmos” Show In Shanghai As A Tribute To Its Legacy - 3 minutes read

Gucci, the Italian luxury business, has been a tastemaker in the world of fashion for more than a century. From its founder, Guccio Gucci, through his successors, Tom Ford, Frida Giannini, and, most recently, Alessandro Michele, the famous company will commemorate its 102-year history and rich heritage with an interactive experience called Gucci Cosmos. The show, which runs from April 28 to June 25, is a journey through Gucci’s universe across the decades.

There will be eight worlds for guests to explore, each with a unique blend of auditory, visual, and physical sensations. Each “room” has been intended to highlight significant items from the brand’s many milestones, and these era-defining works have been sourced from the company’s archives in Florence. The exhibition also “demonstrates how the visionary spirit at the heart of the House has consistently reflected and defined the times,” according to the brand.

Gucci Cosmos will make its first visit in Shanghai, China, and will be curated by Italian fashion critic Maria Luisa Frisa and designed by acclaimed British artist Es Devlin. The choice to hold the first leg of the exhibition in the Middle Kingdom demonstrates the brand’s prominence in the country. Gucci’s growth rate has decreased in recent quarters (it grew by 9 per cent on a comparable basis to Q3 of 2021). According to the report, “performance in Mainland China was mixed,” since most of its storefronts were shuttered owing to the country’s rigorous Covid rules.

Making Shanghai its first destination, Gucci hopes to revitalize the brand and re-capture the attention of the Chinese people, which might lead to increased sales in the local market. The news that China was lifting limitations on January 8 was surely music to the ears of many enterprises from many industries. Gucci’s most recent exhibition in the nation was in 2021, as part of their 100th anniversary celebrations. Many Chinese brand ambassadors, such as Lu Han and Ni Ni, attended the event. The brand’s Aria fashion show was then repeated in the city in June of the same year, with 13 additional designs added to the collection.

“We are happy to return to China to celebrate the global premiere of Gucci Cosmos in Shanghai,” said Marco Bizzarri, president and CEO of Gucci. This exhibition will take guests on an enthralling journey through the House’s past, present, and future. Gucci has always followed its own path, creating a history founded in heritage and craftsmanship while remaining present at the nexus of fashion and culture. Gucci Cosmos is therefore a real celebration of the company’s progress over the course of its 102-year existence, owing to the iconic designs and innovation that have always characterized, and will continue to define, the brand.”

Gucci Cosmos will be on display at Shanghai’s West Bund Art Centre from April 28 until June 25, 2023.
