Twins’ Astudillo (oblique) heads to IL
The Minnesota Twins placed catcher and utility player Willians Astudillo on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain Thursday.
Astudillo is hitting .263 with seven doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs in 133 at-bats in 39 games. He has started 32 games overall, with the most (13) coming in his role as the backup catcher, but he has started games at every position except shortstop and centerfield.
Astudillo has eight starts at third base, four at first base, three in right field, two at designated hitter, and one each in left field and at second base.
The Twins called up outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. from Triple-A Rochester to replace Astudillo. Wade, 25, is hitting .248 with five home runs in 70 games, but he has been hot of late, batting .338 in the past 20 games.
