Trump THANKS AOC for boosting approval rating in hat-tip to 'vicious young Socialist congresswomen'
Donald Trump attributed his Wednesday approval rating boost to the recent controversy with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of the freshmen 'squad' of congresswomen.
The president's daily approval rating in Wednesday's Rasmussen Reports poll has him at 50 per cent approval, and on a steady incline over the past few days.
'New Poll: The Rasmussen Poll, one of the most accurate in predicting the 2016 Election, has just announced that 'Trump' numbers have recently gone up by four points, to 50%,' Trump posted to Twitter.
Before the weekend, Trump's approval rating was at 46 per cent, and on Tuesday, the day after Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley held a press conference condemning the president's words, the rating jumped to 48 per cent.
He thanked the group of four progressive congresswomen for the jump from 46 per cent to 50 per cent in just a few days.
'Thank you to the vicious young Socialist Congresswomen. America will never buy your act! #MAGA2020,' Trump continued in his tweet.
The president said that the four far-left lawmakers have become the face of the Democatic Party, even if the Democrats didn't want that.
Trump and the 'squad' have been in a war of the words ever since the weekend when the president posted a thread of tweets that told the minority lawmakers to go back to their countries of origin and fix the issues there before getting involved with American government.
'Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,' Trump suggested Sunday of Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Tlaib and Pressley. 'Then come back and show us how it is done.'
The president said it was confusing to him why the 'progressive Democrat congresswomen' were trying to govern in the U.S. when they 'came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world.'
Of the four congresswomen, only Omar was born in a country other than the U.S. Ocasio-Cortez is of Puerto Rican descent, Tlaib's parents are Palestinian and Pressley is African American.
Omar was born in Somalia and as a young child fled the country to America with her family.
The four held a press conference Monday that condemned Trump's comments and called for his impeachment. They said his language was that of a white supremacist and said he was promoting white nationalism.
During the conference Trump posted to Twitter that if people don't like America they are free to leave. He said he truly believes the four freshmen congresswomen hate the U.S.
Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Tlaib and Pressley have also been at odds with Democratic leadership and less progressives within the party.
Earlier this month they were the only four lawmakers in the House to vote against a $4.6 billion Republican border bill that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi supported and help get through the chamber.
They claimed passing the bill was giving into Trump's agenda at the border, even though a large chunk of the spending was allocated for improving conditions at migrant detention centers.
The four women were voted in during the 2018 midterms and began serving in the House in January 2019.
Ocasio-Cortez represents New York, Omar represents Minnesota, Tlaib in Michigan and Pressley is a congresswoman from Illinois.
