Out of respect for the Super Bowl, HBO is premiering the new True Detective early - 2 minutes read
Anyone with even a passing interest in football, Taylor Swift, and American conservatism can tell you that the Big Game is coming up. But as The Five prepares itself for the inevitable footage of Swift enjoying her football star boyfriend score a touchdown (if that’s something he’s allowed to do in this game—we’re The A.V. Club, not Deadspin), HBO is thinking of its viewers for a change.
True Detective: Night Country’s next episode—episode five, to be clear—will premiere on Friday, February 9, at 9 p.m. EST, on MAX, the streaming service. The episode will still premiere on HBO proper on Sunday at 9 p.m. opposite the Super Bowl, so anyone not engaging in the national day of chicken wing consumption can still catch the show at its normal time on premium cable. For any of those rascally millennial cord-cutters running around, bragging about how they’re using their ex-boyfriend’s password to binge episodes of His Dark Materials on Max, the episode will be available early on streaming.
And what an episode it shall be. Imagine getting to find out what the “night country” is, what the hell Otis Heiss is doing out there, and how he got Annie’s parka a few days early. What a trip. The A.V. Club’s Saloni Gajjar spoke with True Detective star Kali Reis about what’s next for Navarro and episode four. She said:
Episode four is heavy for Navarro but she still has that driving force to find out what’s right. But now, she’s going to die trying to find out if that’s what she has to do. She has questions like “My sister is gone, what happened?” and “What happened to my mother?” Her goals are: I need to find out. I need to get the answers. I need to fix it.Source: The A.V. Club
