FX has slotted Tuesday, September 17 for the premiere of Ryan Murphy‘s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, the first installment in Murphy’s American Story franchise.
The 10-episode limited series is based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. from The Boston Globe and Wondery. It charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez, played by Josh Rivera, and explores the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide and their legacy in sports and American culture.
The series also stars Jaylen Barron (Shayanna Jenkins), Lindsay Mendez (Tanya Singleton), Ean Castellanos (DJ Hernandez), Tammy Blanchard (Terri Hernandez), Tony Yazbeck (Urban Meyer), Patrick Schwarzenegger (Tim Tebow), Thomas Sadoski (Brian Murphy), Jake Cannavale (“Chris”) and Norbert Leo Butz (Bill Belichick).
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is executive produced by Murphy, Stuart Zicherman, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Carl Franklin. Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery also serve as executive producers alongside Linda Pizzuti Henry and Ira Napoliello of The Boston Globe. The series is produced by 20th Television.
FX has set Monday, September 2 for the premiere of Brian Jordan Alvarez’s new comedy series English Teacher.
Starring and executive produced by Alvarez, English Teacher follows a high school teacher in Austin who’s trying to balance the competing demands of the students and their parents in a world where the r-ules seem to change every day.
Jonathan Krisel (Baskets, Portlandia) also executive produces.
The series will debut at 10 p.m. ET/PT September 2 with the first two episodes. All episodes will stream next day on Hulu. The series also will launch soon on Disney+ internationally. Premiere date TBA.
FX has set an August premiere date for its latest documentary film The New York Times Present: Lie To Fly. It focuses on last year’s terrifying Alaska Airlines flight when a man, who turned out to be a professional pilot, was accused of trying to crash the plane mid-flight. It will air Friday, August 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
FX’s new docuseries Social Studies premieres Friday, September 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX with the first two episodes of the five-episode series. From Emmy-winning filmmaker/photographer Lauren Greenfield, Social Studies is described as a character-driven documentary series that delves into the lives of the first generation raised on social media.
All episodes of Social Studies will stream next day on Hulu and will be available on Disney+ internationally in select territories at a later date.
