Climate-focused music initiative Murmur adds ‘Artist Support’ - 2 minutes read

Murmur launched this year as a charity focused on art, music and climate science, backed by £1m of funding pledges from independent labels. Now it has announced the first details of what it plans to do with that money. More than £240k donated so far is being split between climate-focused projects across music, art and activism.

They include Climate Partner, which is investigating how to make record manufacturing more sustainable; and Impala, to continue developing its carbon-calculator tool for indie labels. Art-focused social enterprise project Climate Action Services International is also getting funding, along with nongovernmental organisations Repórter Brasil, Friends of the Earth Europe and the European Coalition for Corporate Justice.

Also interesting: a funded project called Murmur Artists Support. It will “support artists and musicians to tell inspiring stories and advocate for positive action” by pairing them with comms experts and environmental organisations.

“When artists successfully talk with their audience about subjects they care deeply about, things can change extremely quickly,” said founder Caius Pawson. “To create the environment for real change we need people talking about this subject in a positive, heartfelt way.”
