In general, we think the best luggage for most people is a hard-sided bag, which offers durability. Soft-sided bags might be a good option if you mainly travel with hand-luggage only; soft-sided suitcases are more malleable and can usually be stuffed into even the most tight overhead spaces. However, they won't offer your belongings any protection from tough handling.
