The Delta Techs Who Turned A Jet Engine Into A Barbecue Grill

Nothing says summertime like a barbecue and some members of the Delta Airline TechOp team in Atlanta apparently wanted a good one. They also had the time and know-how, and they even had some spare parts on their hands, so they started tinkering.

When they were done, they had a two grills made out of parts from a Pratt & Whitney PW2000 jet engine from a 757.

Both sides of the engine open as a mirror image of each other, complete with a grill and workstation.

Here’s how the motorized door opens, also with some illuminations on the hinges. Because of course it has that.

The finished product can be found at the Delta Air Lines Operations Control Center in Atlanta.

By the way, this isn’t the first time that TechOps built a custom aviation-themed grill. In 2015, they built the Delta Celebration Grill and it was made to resemble an aircraft.

Its wingspan measured more than 20 feet across, the fuselage grilling chamber was 38 feet long and nearly 15 feet high at the tip of its tail. Best of all, BBQ masters could make about 500 burgers an hour on it.
