Laurene Powell Jobs’ super-yacht crashes into another one - 3 minutes read
Laurene Powell Jobs’ super-yacht recently crashed into another billionaire’s even bigger yacht off Naples, Italy, according to a report. Steve Jobs originally commissioned the $140 million Venus, collaborating on its design. High winds pushed the boats at anchor into each other.
Damage is estimated to be costly, given the yachts’ combined value of $265 million. For the merely wealthy or well-adjacent, that’s like paying through the nose to get a scratch fixed on your Bentley.
Rich-people problems: Laurene Powell Jobs’ super-yacht crashes into another billionaire’s super-yacht
Video of the fender bender at sea on July 22 caught the two boats drifting into each other while crew members shouted helplessly, according to the Daily Mail. Winds that reached 63 mph pushed the 344-foot Lady Moura, owned by Mexican billionaire telecom titan Ricardo Salinas, and Jobs’ 256-foot Venus, together. Jobs wasn’t on board, and it’s not clear if Salinas was or not, though his social media post indicate he was vacationing in Naples.
Fault for the collision seems to be in dispute, but sources aboard Venus said the $125 million Lady Moura dropped too much anchor line and drifted. The video, however, makes it look like Venus drifted into Lady Moura, perhaps because the camera was on the latter boat. Salinas blamed the captain and crew of Venus.
Minor accident, costly repairs
No me lo van a creer pero nos chocaron el yate mientras estábamos en Nápoles.

The yachts’ captains conferred after the accident, calling it minor but noting repairs would be necessary. Salinas, who posted the video, said the repairs will be expensive, saying Venus was at fault and “it would cost more than a few iPhones to get the Lady Moura ship shape.”
However, in the video, you can see a ball on the bow of the Venus that shows she was at anchor at the time of the incident, Daily Mail said.
“The good thing is that it was nothing more than a scratch. But it was a big scratch it’s going to cost a lot to fix it,” Salinas wrote, ending with “ha, ha, ha.”
Salinas urges Apple product sales to help pay
But Salinas also derided Venus‘ crew for not being able to see a huge boat “right in front of them.” And he said he shared the video to let everyone see there are “still idiots in the world.”
Then he urged people to buy Apple products from one of his companies, elektra.mx, “to help pay for the repairs.”
It seems unlikely that either party would struggle with the repair bills, but they may fight over them.
Venus, a labor of love for Steve Jobs
Per his habit of getting into the weeds on product design, Steve Jobs collaborated with French designer Philippe Starck on every last detail of Venus. But the boat didn’t launch until a year after Jobs’ death.
Named for the Roman goddess of beauty, the aluminum yacht features an unsurprisingly minimalist design. But some of its ceiling heights reach 40 feet and it packs six bedrooms, each exactly the same size.
