Top audio interface sculpts software engineer’s sound [Setups] - 4 minutes read

In today’s enviable computer setup, a software engineer drives a Studio Display with an M2 Pro MacBook Pro. But among other impressive peripherals connected in the rig we found a great version of one of Cult of Mac‘s Best Audio Interfaces for Mac. An interface serves as a bridge between your Mac and external audio sources like microphones and musical instruments to make the most of recording and mixing.

Software engineer usesM2 Pro MacBook Pro with Audient iD24 USB-C Audio Interface for recording and mixing

Redditor OK_Cobbler_806 showcased the Studio Display recently in a post entitled, “Rate me setup (software engineer).” Cobbler asked for and got plenty feedback on his setup, and we covered much of that a while back in a post focusing on his much-loved Studio Display. Our previous post goes into detail on much of Cobbler’s gear, but not on one of our favorite items. It’s an Audient iD24 USB-C Audio Interface.

A smaller version of the highly capable interface made it into Cult of Mac‘s best-of guide for audio interfaces — the Audient iD4 MK II two-in, two-out audio interface, which goes for a little under $200. But the entry in our guide made reference to the bigger interface Cobbler uses for its expanded functionality.

We called Audient’s more limited entry a “compact, feature-rich audio interface that offers excellent sound quality and user-friendly controls.” And here’s more:

With its streamlined design and professional-grade performance, it is an ideal choice for Mac users seeking a high-quality interface for recording vocals, instruments and podcasts. The iD4 MK II features a single Class-A Audient console mic preamp, providing clean and transparent amplification for microphones. It also offers a discrete JFET DI input for connecting guitars, basses or other instruments directly.
The interface supports 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution, ensuring accurate and detailed recordings. It features high-quality converters and analog circuitry for pristine sound reproduction. The iD4 MK II includes a large volume knob that doubles as an intuitive monitor control. It also offers a dedicated headphone output with independent volume control, allowing for convenient and easy monitoring. The interface comes bundled with a comprehensive software package.

Audient iD24

Cobbler’s iD24 version of the interface simply handles more inputs and outputs (up to 10 in and 24 out), like when you need extra microphones for vocalists and/or more guitars and keyboards. Amazingly, you can get that much-expanded functionality for only about twice the price of the iD4. The iD24 typically costs a shade under $400.

Features:

2 x Class-A Audient Console Mic Preamps with the discrete circuit design found in the ASP8024-HE recording console, designed to deliver ultra- low noise and low distortion with a touch of classic analog warmth.

1 x ADAT Optical Input & Output allows expandability supports both ADAT and SPDIF, iD24 lets you boost your I/O by adding up to 8 channels of mic preamps to your setup.
