New Aqara presence sensor can help fine-tune smart-home automations - 2 minutes read

Aqara’s new Presence Sensor FP1E monitors smart-home spaces for human activity and helps launch automations via HomeKit and other platforms, the company said recently. To get the most out of it, though, you need an Aqara Matter bridge.

Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E
Aqara‘s new FP1E sensor uses advanced millimeter wave (mmWave) technology to detect even the slightest human movements. So it offers precise presence detection for various home automation scenarios, Aqara noted.
The new sensor has a  range of up to 6 meters and can monitor rooms up to 50 square meters when ceiling-mounted. That means the sensor outperforms traditional PIR motion sensors by detecting presence even when a person is sitting or lying still, Aqara said.
For Apple users, the FP1E’s compatibility with Matter over an Aqara Matter bridge makes it useful. That’s because Matter ensures seamless integration with Apple Home, as well as other popular smart home platforms like Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
The sensor’s AI algorithms distinguish between relevant movements and false triggers, filtering out small pets and sources of interference. That combined with the sensor’s self-adaptive sensitivity and continuous learning capabilities makes FP1E a compelling occupancy detection solution.
Helps with smart-home automations
Apple users can take advantage of FP1E and the Aqara Home app to create custom automations based on movement or stillness. That can include duration-based triggers. For example, users can set up notifications or smart light color changes if they remain still for over 30 minutes.
The FP1E is designed for easy installation. It includes both magnetic and adhesive-backed brackets. It’s powered by a 5V1A supply. Note that an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required to use the FP1E, and a Matter-compatible Aqara hub is necessary for Matter compatibility.
You can pick up the Aqara Presence Sensor FP1E on Amazon for $49.99.
