Microsoft is making a big push into generative AI, with updates to its Azure AI Studio and Copilot Studio platforms. Azure AI Studio lets developers build AI-powered apps using pre-built models and their own data. It will soon offer pay-as-you-go access to powerful generative AI models.

Copilot studio is getting new “Copilot agents” that can automate tasks and workflows. Developers can also create custom AI helpers with extensions and connectors for Microsoft Teams and other applications. These updates aim to make it easier for businesses to build and deploy AI-powered applications.

Microsoft unveils Team CoPilot

Microsoft unveiled Team CoPilot, a new addition to its generative AI technology suite aimed at improving teamwork. Unlike previous Copilot products designed for individuals, Team CoPilot focuses on collaboration and project management within large organizations.

Integrated with Microsoft Teams, Team CoPilot assists with managing meeting agendas, taking co-authored notes, and summarizing or answering questions about past discussions within text chats. But Team Copilot’s reach extends beyond Teams. It integrated with collaboration tools Loop and Planner to create tasks, track deadlines, and notify into steps and answer questions about project progress in Planner.

Team CoPilot features are expected as a preview later this year, but you’ll need a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license, starting at $30 per user per month.

Microsoft launches CoPilot+ for PCs

With a move towards making Windows an AI operating system, Microsoft has launched CoPilot+ for PCs. These are high-powered machines with special chips designed to run AI applications. They come with features like:

Recall: This new feature can remember apps and content you've accessed on your PC, even weeks or months ago. You can use Recall’s timeline to scroll back and see what you were working on, and drill down into files to surface information relevant to your searches. Windows CoPilot Runtime: This is a collection of generative AI models like Super Resolution. This new feature can restore old photos by automatically upscaling them. Windows CoPilot runtime allows generative AI powered apps to run without needing an Internet connection. Phi-3: This is a new generative AI model from Microsoft that can do general visual analysis and reasoning tasks. Snapdragon DevKit: CoPilot+ PCs will also come with a new dev kit from Qualcomm. This $899.99 kit will house Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip which will be paired with 32 GB ram and 512 GB storage.

Conversational websites with GPT 4o

Satya Nadella also unveiled a new feature powered by GPT-4o which also helps with conversational websites. A demo was shown where websites ditch static text and buttons for an interactive dialogue. With GPT-4o's understanding of language, these websites can respond to your questions and requests directly within the browser.

You can think of it like having a built-in chat assistant on every website, guiding you through tasks, answering your inquiries in real-time, and personalizing your experience. This tech is still rolling out, but it promises a future where websites feel more like conversations and less like digital brochures.
