Spectroscopy® Names Ishan Barman 2019 Emerging Leader in Molecular Spectroscopy
CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spectroscopy, a multimedia platform that promotes the use of spectroscopic instrumentation in applied research, environmental testing, quality control, and the life sciences, has awarded Ishan Barman, PhD, the 2019 Emerging Leader in Molecular Spectroscopy. The annual award recognizes the achievements and aspirations of a talented young molecular spectroscopist.
“We are honored to recognize Dr. Barman for this year’s Emerging Leader in Molecular Spectroscopy,” said Tom Ehardt, president of MultiMedia Healthcare, LLC. “Dr. Barman shows incredible passion, commitment and contribution to the spectroscopy research field.”
Barman is an assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, with joint appointments in the departments of oncology and of radiology and radiological Science. He is also a senior investigator of the National Institutes of Health-funded Laser Biomedical Research Center. He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and then moved on to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he investigated transcutaneous blood analyte detection using Raman spectroscopy and received his doctorate.
His laboratory’s research focuses on the development of cutting-edge and transformative biophotonics technologies with the goal of disease detection at early, manageable stages; monitoring therapeutic effects and treatment outcomes; and guiding interventions. Specifically, Barman’s work features spectroscopic imaging, which combines the molecular basis of spectroscopy with the imaging capabilities of microscopy and bridges the chemical and morphologic domains.
The 2019 Emerging Leader in Molecular Spectroscopy Award will be presented to Barman at the SciX 2019 Conference in October. He will also give a plenary lecture and an outlook into his research.
Selected by an independent scientific committee, the Emerging Leader in Molecular Spectroscopy Award honors a young molecular spectroscopist who has made strides early in his or her career toward the advancement of molecular spectroscopy techniques and applications. The winner must be within 10 years of receiving his or her highest academic degree.
About SpectroscopySpectroscopyis a multimedia platform dedicated to analytical spectroscopy through peer-reviewed articles, tutorials, web seminars and more.
