Alabama Senate hopeful who authored an ACA repeal sells ‘free’ pro-life stickers — for $4 each - 3 minutes read
Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL), who claims to be “pro-life” despite his repeated votes to take health insurance away from millions of people, is hoping to cash in on his state’s new unconstitutional abortion ban.
Byrne, who is seeking his party’s nomination to challenge Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) next year, is currently giving away “free” pro-life stickers with his campaign logo on them — as long as you donate $4 to his campaign.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed a bill last week that bans virtually all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. The law is so extreme that even President Donald Trump, his handpicked Republican National Committee chair, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) have has suggested it goes too far.
By contrast, Byrne tweeted Tuesday that his state was “leading the nation in the first to protect life.”
To celebrate this, he has invited “top pro-life supporters” to claim a “FREE PRO LIFE-STICKER.” The metaphorical fine print then notes that his definition of “free” is actually $4.
Alabama is leading the nation in the fight to protect life! We’re asking our top pro-life supporters to claim their own FREE PRO-LIFE STICKER!
We only ask that you help cover the shipping & processing by chipping in $4.

The link to “claim your free sticker” takes you to a campaign fundraising page which invites donors to give $10, $25, $50, $100, $250, $1,000, or the legal maximum of $2,800. The only way to pay the minimum $4 is to select the “other” box and write it in.
While this is a common e-commerce scam practice, it is a questionable tactic for a sitting member of Congress — especially one who ran on the “conservative values of hard work and individual responsibility” and a “belief in ethical leadership.”
Not only is Byrne’s definition of “free” very different from the one in the dictionary, the same could be said for his definition of “pro-life.”
The third-term representative has regularly opposed abortion rights, but imperiled the lives of hundreds of thousands of Alabamans and millions of Americans. He authored a four-page bill in 2015 that sought to completely repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a promise that something else would come later. He has voted time and again for other Obamacare repeals, including the wildly unpopular 2017 Trumpcare legislation.
Byrne made national news earlier this year when he mansplained tried to explain gender pay legislation to a female colleague. “I don’t think she understands what that language actually means,” Byrne said at the time.
