Megan Rapinoe’s Girlfriend Sue Bird Compares Trump Criticism To ‘Out Of Body Experience’
The girlfriend of U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe spoke out Tuesday on Rapinoe’s back and forth with President Donald Trump.
In an article for the Player’s Tribune titled “So the President F*cking Hates My Girlfriend,” Rapinoe’s girlfriend Sue Bird, a WNBA player, ripped into Trump and defended Rapinoe. (RELATED: US Women’s Soccer Player Says She Will ‘Probably Never Sing The National Anthem Again’)
“That’s one thing that you kind of have to know about me and Megan: our politics are similar — after we won the WNBA title in Seattle last season, no way were we going to the (f*cking) White House!” Bird said. Bird’s Seattle Storm team won the WNBA championship in 2018, but was not invited to the White House.
Bird continued to hammer Trump, questioning why her girlfriend was even worthy of his attention. (RELATED: Megan Rapinoe Says She’s Not ‘Going To The F**king White House’)
“I mean, some of it is kind of funny….. but like in a REALLY? REALLY? THIS GUY??? kind of way. Like, dude — there’s nothing better demanding your attention?? It would be ridiculous to the point of laughter, if it wasn’t so gross,” Bird said, adding that the president’s tweets toward Rapinoe were also “legitimately scary.”
“And then what’s legitimately scary, I guess, is like….. how it’s not just his tweets. Because now suddenly you’ve got all these MAGA peeps getting hostile in your mentions,” Bird said. “And you’ve got all these crazy blogs writing terrible things about this person you care so much about. And now they’re doing takedowns of Megan on Fox News, and who knows whatever else. It’s like an out-of-body experience, really — that’s how I’d describe it. That’s how it was for me.”
The U.S. has already advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s World Cup, and is widely considered the favorite to take home the championship. In a tweet thread last week, Trump expressed disappointment over Rapinoe’s harsh criticism of his administration, and invited the team to the White House, win or lose.
“I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!” Trump tweeted. “I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
