A2IM Announces New Board of Directors
The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) has completed the May election for its 2019 Board of Directors, and the results mark the first time the board has comprised five women out of a total 11 voting members.
The four newly-elected board members for the non-profit organization -- which supports the indie music sector -- are Martin Mills, founder of Beggars Group; Darius Van Arman, co-owner of Secretly Group, Lisa Levy, vp of sales and marketing at Robbins Entertainment; and Zena White, managing director of Partisan Records.
Mills and Van Arman have been re-elected after taking a year off, while Levy and White join the board of directors from one-year terms in A2IM's advisory board, which helps guide the direction of the org.
“The A2IM team is pleased to be able to draw upon the trove of knowledge and experience embodied in our Board of Directors," shared A2IM president and CEO Richard James Burgess. "In addition, the organization benefits greatly from the diverse expertise of our panel of advisory board members. I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our continuing and incoming board members for their commitment to the wellbeing of the independent community."
The foursome fill the empty seats left by the following former directors, whose three-year terms expired on June 30: Hopeless Records president Louis Posen, Big Machine Label Group COO Andrew Kautz, Yep Roc Records founder Glenn Dicker and Domino Recording Co. general manager Kris Gillespie.
The A2IM board of directors meets up to 10 times per year to review the organization's agenda and progress, represent the membership at large and assist in shaping the org's priorities and outlook.
In addition to Levy and White, outgoing advisory board members include Warp Records head of North America Steven Hill and Nettwerk co-founder Mark Jowett. The 2019 advisory board is comprised of Mass Appeal managing director Jeff Clyburn, GoDigital/Cinq CEO Jason Peterson, Italians Do It Better president Megan Louise, AntiFragile founder Tom Sarig and Omnian Music Group managing director Jane Abernethy.
The announcement comes on the heels of A2IM's 2019 Indie Week conference, which capped June 20.
