Final Transformers One Trailer Is Here to Remind You It’s Amazing - 3 minutes read

It’s an occasion almost 40 years in the making—13,924 days to be exact. That was the last time an animated Transformers movie was released in theaters and as momentous an occasion that was for a generation of fans, this one might just top it. Transformers One opens in theaters Friday, telling the powerful origin story of some of the most beloved sci-fi characters ever. And, to mark the release, Paramount dropped a brand new trailer filled with new footage and quotes making sure everyone knows, this movie is incredible.

io9 posted its review of the film last week, which you can read here, but the gist is that director Josh Cooley and company have made an incredible ode to the robots in disguise. If you are already planning on seeing the film, you might want to avoid this trailer, which has even more spoilers than the last very spoiler-filled trailer. But, if you aren’t quite sure or still think, as we incorrectly did at first, the movie doesn’t look great, this trailer will go a long way to changing your mind.

Again, this is a very energetic trailer and it does an excellent job of selling the type of movie this is. I do wonder though if this strategy of basically showing every single non-story spoiler in the film (cameos, new designs, etc.) is a sign that the studio doesn’t think this movie is going to be a hit. Marketing clearly knows opening weekend is everything and once a ticket is purchased, it doesn’t matter if the audience member has been spoiled in the trailers before, as long as the studio sells that ticket. Usually, though, that doesn’t mean spoiling huge reveals. There are still a few huge reveals in Transformers One that haven’t been in any marketing but, once you see the movie, you’ll realize there aren’t as many as you hope. Which is a bit of a bummer.

Thankfully though, we don’t think that’ll matter in the end. Trailers still can’t convey the film’s energy, reverence for the franchise, or the emotional story of two friends who become mortal enemies. Oh, and if you are craving even more Transformers One before its release, a new music video also just dropped. Check it.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm; executive produced by Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg; written by Eric Pearson, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari; and directed by Josh Cooley, Transformers One is in theaters Friday.
