Jurgen Klopp's first Liverpool transfer wants to return to Anfield

Jurgen Klopp's first signing at Liverpool, Marko Grujic, wants to return to Anfield and become a 'true Reds player' this season.

Grujic joined Liverpool from Red Star Belgrade back in 2016 but was loaned back to the Serbian club for a season.

He later represented Cardiff City and then joined Hertha Berlin, but the midfielder says he is finally ready to return to his parent club and represent Liverpool.

Speaking to Bild, Grujic said: "My contract at Liverpool runs until 2023. We [he and Klopp] both saw it in a similar way: I only managed to make the most of 50 per cent of my opportunities in Berlin. Minor injuries knocked me back.

"It's another reason why I didn't want to leave. I have unfinished business at Hertha. He also found that it is better for my development to stay in the Bundesliga for another year."

He continued: "I always realise that I belong to such a big club and it's where I want to be. If I play 34 very good games for Hertha, the chance to be a true Liverpool player next year is great."

Grujic was on the radar of a number of top teams back in 2016 but it was Liverpool who beat Juventus, Chelsea, AC Milan and co. to his signature.

Klopp's then assistant Zeljko Buvac, a Bosnian-Serb, personally flew out to Belgrade to meet the youngster, where he convinced him to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Reds.

Liverpool parted with £5million to get the transfer over the line.
