Soccer Mommy wrote a love song for Stardew Valley’s Abigail for her new album - 2 minutes read
Sophie Allison, better known as indie pop artist Soccer Mommy, has a new album, Evergreen, coming out on Oct. 25. In anticipation of its release, Allison released one single early: “Abigail,” a love song written for Stardew Valley’s purple haired non-playable character.
“New song ‘Abigail’ is out now,” Allison posted on X. “Abigail is an ode to my stardew valley wife. I made this as a cute little writing exercise, but I ended up liking it so much that I wanted to put it on the record. I hope some of my fellow stardew fans can bop to this!”
The three-minute single was released alongside the music video set in Stardew Valley, with game footage of Allison’s character romancing Abigail. Naturally, the song has a ton of references to Stardew Valley and Abigail, who lives at the Pelican Town general store with her parents. She also references the gifts Abigail likes, like chocolate cake, her flute-playing, and how you can sometimes find her hanging out at the graveyard at night. This is all plays out in the music video, which ends with Allison’s character getting married to Abigail.
The song itself is floaty and dreamy, like so much of Soccer Mommy’s music. It’s not that surprising that Allison released a song all about Stardew Valley — Soccer Mommy songs reference video games quite a bit. Her music video for “rom com 2004” features a Mii character in a low-poly world, and the album art for Color Theory is modeled after video game packaging. In 2022, she performed in Roblox and recorded her song “Shotgun” in Simlish for The Sims 4’s High School expansion pack.
