Police ask criminals to wait until heat wave breaks to commit crimes
With a heat index forecast at up to 111 degrees this weekend, most Massachusetts residents are hoping they can stay out of the sun. Including Braintree police officers.
In a Facebook post that has received over 64,000 likes since Friday, the Braintree police department asked anyone who is planning on committing a crime to “hold off” until Monday, when the heat wave is expected to break.
“It is straight up hot as soccer balls out there,” the post read. “Conducting criminal activity in this extreme heat is next-level henchmen status, but also very dangerous.”
“Stay home, blast the AC, binge Stranger Things season 3, play with the face app, practice karate in your basement. We will all meet again on Monday when it’s cooler. Sincerely, The PoPo.”
They also requested that nobody spoils season three of Stranger Things for them, since they are just finishing season two.
Mayor Martin Walsh declared a heat emergency on Thursday for the city of Boston.
Continuing through Sunday evening, dozens of cooling centers will be available at BCYF community centers throughout the city. And across the Bay State, community centers, senior centers and other facilities will be available for people to avoid heat stress.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will remain in the 90s throughout the weekend.
